The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, His Excellency Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, handed over 102 vehicles to the ZDF, at a hand over ceremony held at Msasa Logistics Garrison in Harare on 29 September 2025.
Speaking during the ceremony, President Mnangagwa emphasised that this initiative is part of the government’s commitment to enhancing the conditions of service for ZDF members.
“During the 2025 Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day celebrations, I reiterated that the addressing of the welfare and condition of service for our Defence Forces, including the entire public service, is an ongoing process. The vehicles we are commissioning today are under the first phase of a comprehensive programme that will see government procuring vehicles, inclusive buses, towards enhancing mobility across the rank and file of the ZDF,” he said.
The allocation of the vehicles, President Mnangagwa said, was a strategic investment that would ultimately aid the realisation of national development aspirations. He also said that the initiative would also enable the Defence Forces to effectively execute their constitutional mandate.
The Minister of Defence Cde Oppah Chamu Zvipange Muchinguri-Kashiri commended President Mnangagwa for his commitment to improve the conditions of service for ZDF personnel.
“Your Excellency, I thank you for championing and embracing the Presidential Intervention Vehicle Scheme, which seeks to ease the long-standing transport challenges within the ZDF for both officers and men. The provision of Personal Issue Service Vehicles is not just about mobility, it is a fundamental aspect of improving conditions of service and raising the morale of our forces,” she said.
The availing of the vehicles demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing the welfare and conditions of service for the ZDF, with efforts underway to procure more vehicles. Overall, the ZDF is set to receive over 700 vehicles, with the consignment being increased by a batch of buses, allowing intra-city and inter-city movement of the force.
Late last year the President had handed over 54 staff and utility vehicles at a ceremony held in Dzivarasekwa.
